Discomfort Cookoff

For one of our events last semester, we wanted to help students become better cooks by teaching them basic cooking skills. To make it fun we split into two teams and turned it into a Gordan Ramsay-style cooking contest where each participant helped make their team's dish.

Team Lewis (led by Lewis Stepp) had confidence in their abilities from the start. This team had the style, chemistry, and passion required for making amazing food in the kitchen. Throughout the event, they showed off their chemistry by having great communication and teamwork. They decided to make a Sour Cream Noodle Bake.

Team Robbie (led by Robbie Morris) brought humor and a good spirit from the jump. While this team did not have the chemistry of Team Lewis they made up for it with creativity and enthusiasm. This team decided to do their own unique take on fried rice that was full of protein.

Once the dishes were complete they were plated and presented to a panel of judges who began to sample these works of art. They were blown away by the unique spice and flavor combinations of Team Robbie's fried rice but felt the consistency of the rice could be improved.

The Sour Cream Noodle Bake prepared by Team Lewis was creamy, filling, and overall delicious. The judges concluded this would be perfect for a dorm/apartment dinner party and the team received bonus points for including a vegetarian version for sampling.

While each dish had a unique and delicious flavor profile in the end the title of the Discomfort Cookoff Champion was awarded to Team Lewis for their excellent dish and great teamwork.

The only question that remains is who will be crowned this year's Discomfort Cookoff Champion? Join our newsletter for updates on the next cookoff and other upcoming events.
